With its large screen in a reduced format, it focuses on user comfort without sacrificing portability. As a bonus, it has enough resources to help you manage all your tasks.

When looking for a larger touchscreen, you generally have to forget about lightness and compactness. This is not the case with the C523 which takes advantage of its NanoEdge edges to become an example of practicality. He took the opportunity to top it off with an autonomy of nearly 10 hours and more than sufficient power for this type of machine.

Designed to go back to the roots of Chromebooks, this model is particularly suited to undemanding users, just looking for a useful tool to surf the web, take notes and enjoy a little multimedia.

The CB314 responds to a simple principle: to create a computer that contains the essentials while being efficient enough to be useful on a daily basis and remaining affordable. It is a bet won for the brand which succeeds in offering a robust and enduring computer. Its size is certainly not the most optimized but it is enough to easily fit into a school bag.

The only real downside is the resolution of its screen, limited to HD, which reduces the smoothness of the display. But honestly, on a diagonal like this, it doesn’t feel very much.

This version of the MacBook is the most practical for students who love the apple brand. It offers a very nice fluidity and a more than correct autonomy thanks to its optimized standby.

This laptop is ideal for office automation as well as multimedia thanks to its very qualitative screen and the fluidity of MacOS. However, its capabilities are constrained by the lack of real graphics power and the presence of a low-power processor at the entry level. Nevertheless, it is still able to meet the majority of users.

How did we make our choice?

Finding the perfect companion for your studies can be a real headache, so many possibilities exist: should you go for a touchscreen tablet with a wireless keyboard or for a laptop? The two possibilities each have their advantages and disadvantages.

In the case of computers, the recipe is simple: you have to find the best combination between the following criteria.

First of all, we must focus on the operating system:

  • Windows : they are undoubtedly the best known in the student community, because they are less expensive than a Mac and, being, suddenly, much more widespread, they pose less problems of compatibility. However, their battery is generally less, and they quickly encounter slowness problems if you open several pages or programs simultaneously. Finally, they are more susceptible to viruses and long-term heating.
  • Mac Os : impeccably designed, thin and light, they are generally known to be more practical, more intuitive and easier to use than Windows PCs, while having very good battery life. But their high cost very often puts them out of the reach of a student.
  • Chrome OS: Still little known in Europe, Chromebooks have met with tremendous success in the United States, where they have even overtaken Mac sales . Running on the Chrome OS operating system, free and open-source, they are cheap in view of their general quality, fast, efficient in multitasking, and have excellent battery life. As these are specific tools, we invite you to consult our dedicated guide to find out more.

Then, once you have made your choice, you must ensure a good balance between the following criteria:

  • Mobility: a day of classes can be hectic and it is not uncommon for people to have to move from one room to another, without necessarily having a socket nearby. In this case, it is essential to have a practical computer to slip into your bag and whose autonomy can last the whole day. In this sense, we advise you to favor models whose screen is small (maximum 15 inches ) and whose autonomy exceeds 8 hours.
  • Ergonomics : to be able to easily take notes without risking a fateful cramp that would cause you to miss essential information, it is important that the ergonomics of your computer be studied as much as possible. Therefore, special attention must be paid to comfort, both in terms of the keyboard and the touchpad. It is important that they are spacious and responsive enough to make their use pleasant and not to tire you unnecessarily.
  • Power : of course, it is rare that very greedy programs are used in progress but it is necessary to ensure the fluidity of the computer so that you can react instantly when the need arises. In addition, extended power allows you to open a large number of programs in parallel and navigate between them without a hitch. The graphic design students and gaming enthusiasts need graphics power to use more intensive software. If these last elements are essential for you, consult our articles dedicated to graphic designers and gamers .
  • The screen : a quality display allows you not to strain your eyesight during long periods of use, such as when writing a report. In this sense, it is essential to aim for high brightness and low reflectance so that you can also enjoy the sun this summer. Another important element is the size of the panel: the more you choose a large panel, the more the visual comfort increases but the less your computer is practical to transport.

After going through numerous tests carried out on the Internet, analyzing the technical sheet of each product, consulting the opinions of French and English speaking users and ensuring the legitimacy of these comments, we were able to determine the 6 best laptops for students of the moment.

This convertible Chromebook has all the advantages of a premium model, for an unbeatable price. It stands out with its aluminum frame, touch screen and high performance.

Reference model in terms of quality / price ratio, the C434 is the top of the range Chromebooks… For a ridiculous price when compared to its counterparts under other OS. It is the perfect computer for students thanks to its lightness, its endurance and its practical size. He is also able to manage an entire day of lessons without weakening. Already in its look, it has everything of a premium computer: its chassis is made of aluminum, and the whole exudes solidity.

It is also a 14 ”screen but, thanks to the NanoEdge display technology and very thin edges (only 5 mm), it offers an ultra-compact format that puts it in the 13” category. In this sense, its weight is minimal: it weighs only 1.45 kg! The keyboard is also considered one of the most comfortable, with responsive keys and sufficiently spaced. It is, of course, backlit. The touchpad is just as qualitative which makes it really pleasant to use.

On the performance side, if there are several versions (especially in a very powerful configuration integrating a Core i5 processor ), we offer, for student use, the one integrating an Intel M3 processor, with 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of memory expandable via microSD. In this configuration, it has an autonomy of more than 10 hours, and is fast and efficient even in intensive multitasking. Its Full HD screen is tactile and offers both remarkable colorimetry and brightness, which is perfect for multimedia use. As its name suggests, this time it is a 360 ° reversible model.

The tablet mode is also very pleasant, thanks to the finesse of the computer (it almost feels like a real tablet in hand), but also because of the ErgoLift hinge: fluid, it allows, once the screen is open, slightly elevate the keyboard for better typing comfort, while creating a slight space under the screen for better sound distribution (which, again, is very practical for multimedia use ). Its connectivity includes, in addition to the microSD port, two USB-C ports, a USB 3.0 port and a 3.5 mm mini-jack. Again, it will be necessary to go through a hub for the HDMI, but this is the price of its extreme finesse. Ultimately, what more could you ask for, especially at this price?

With its large screen in a reduced format, it focuses on user comfort without sacrificing portability. As a bonus, it has enough resources to help you manage all your tasks.

When looking for a larger touchscreen, you generally have to forget about lightness and compactness. This is not the case with the C523 which takes advantage of its NanoEdge edges to become an example of practicality. He took the opportunity to top it off with an autonomy of nearly 10 hours and more than sufficient power for this type of machine.

As we announced, a 15.6 ″ screen, while very comfortable, generally has the inconvenience of being bulky. However, the Asus C523 has been able to circumvent this obstacle by adopting the NanoEdge technology.

This allows, thanks to the optimization of the edges, to offer a format closer to the 14-inch models, which makes it more easily transportable, for an extremely reduced weight of 1.4 kg!

As a bonus, it has a real autonomy that can be around 10 hours, which makes it one of the most enduring models on the market and ensures you can spend the day of classes without a hitch.

In terms of ergonomics, if its backlit keyboard is considered very comfortable by users (especially because of its good optimization of space), it is even more the Corning Gorilla touchpad, extremely responsive.

Its components may seem weak compared to the data sheets of Windows PCs but, for ChromeOS, they are more than sufficient: Intel Pentium N4200 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of memory expandable via microSD. What to accompany you cheerfully in office automation, surfing and multitasking.

It is adorned with an aluminum frame, a guarantee of its robustness, framing a 15.6 ″ Full HD touch screen that can be opened at 180 ° thanks to ultra-resistant hinges, which can be very practical for group work and presentations. The rendering is quite qualitative but unfortunately the anti-reflection is ineffective which makes it quite sensitive to this nuisance.

Connectivity level, if it does not have an HDMI port, it nevertheless has two USB-C ports that will allow you to easily use a hub, two USB 3.0 ports, and a mini-jack.

Versatile and efficient, this laptop has everything you need for a student’s life while offering excellent value for money. He even exceeds his big brother, former champion of the category.

Between its neat design and its studied mobility, the Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 is a solution adapted to students and even to professionals. However, if you want to play a bit, opt for the 15 ”version instead , which sacrifices the touchscreen but is equipped with a beefier processor and a dedicated graphics card, the GTX 1650. As you would expect from a 13 ”laptop, this computer is a good example of portability thanks to its small size (215.92 x 306.76 x 15.90 mm – 1.45 kg). It has a chassis and a coating mainly made of aluminum, to the benefit of the strength and rigidity of the whole. At the same time, the autonomy is quite good for the FHD version with a result of 8 to 9 hours (against around 6 hours for the 4K version).

To fully recharge it, count 1h30. The ergonomic aspect is just as interesting with a hybrid system combining tablet and laptop use thanks to the touch screen. The latter is compatible with active styluses and the brand also provides you with a very effective one in the packaging. It is designed to slip into a magnetic location, placed under the screen. Both the keyboard and the touchpad are pleasant to use with very good responsiveness.

A fingerprint sensor is also integrated to facilitate unlocking. However, some note a lack of precision that requires you to repeat it several times. However, the performance aspect is not left out with an Intel Core i5-10210U coupled with 8 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. This set allows the Inspiron 13 to enjoy excellent fluidity that will be hard to fault. The only downside comes from the lack of a graphics card, which limits its potential for this type of task. The display is provided by a 13.3 ”IPS FHD + panel in 16:10 format.

It has very good results thanks to a very high brightness and an equally good contrast. It exists in 4K resolution for the most picky but we do not recommend this solution as it is unattractive on such a low diagonal. The connection, finally, is sufficiently provided for this format with 1 HDMI 2.0 output, 1 1st generation USB 3.1 port, 1 Thunderbolt ™ 3 port with DisplayPort and Power Delivery, 1 headphone / microphone combo jack. Wi-Fi 6 is also supported.

Designed to go back to the roots of Chromebooks, this model is particularly suited to undemanding users, just looking for a useful tool to surf the web, take notes and enjoy a little multimedia.

The CB314 responds to a simple principle: create a Chromebook going back to basics while being efficient enough to be useful on a daily basis and remaining affordable. It is a bet won for the brand which succeeds in offering a robust and enduring computer. Its size is certainly not the most optimized but it is enough to easily fit into a school bag.

Entry-level doesn’t necessarily mean basic or uncomfortable. Thus, Acer equips the small CB314 with a neat and sufficiently spacious keyboard whose keys are quite pleasant. The touchpad is of the same ilk and fully supports multi-touch gestures specific to Chromebooks.

The mobility aspect is in the standard with a weight all the same content of 1.5 kg and a fairly compact format, even if we would have appreciated a little thinner borders. But the real advantage of this computer on this point is its autonomy which makes it capable of holding out until 12:30 p.m. away from a source of energy!

On the performance side, you are entitled to an Intel Celeron N4000 coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB storage expandable via SD card. For the intended use, that is to say multimedia and office automation, this is more than sufficient. Moreover, when compared to its direct competitors, its processor offers a power between 25 and 30% higher (compared to an N3350).

The display is just as interesting with a 14 ”HD non-touch panel. It is colorful and bright enough to be used both indoors and outdoors, although it should be avoided to be too exposed to the sun’s rays.

Despite these strengths, a flaw stands out: the resolution which is limited only to HD. As a result, the sharpness and precision of the images will be more limited. This defect is unfortunately quite common at this level of the range. But honestly, on a diagonal like this, it doesn’t feel very much.

For connectivity, you are entitled to classic Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in addition to two USB-C ports (including one for charging), two USB 3.1 ports, an SD card reader and a jack.

In conclusion, even if it could be better, this Chromebook remains one of the most interesting at this price.

This laptop has many advantages that allow it to appeal to students. Indeed, in addition to being well assembled, it has a good level of performance which makes it suitable for light gaming.

If you want to stay on Windows, then the Aspire 5 range is an ideal solution. Indeed, there is a wide variety of versions to adapt it to your needs and your budget. The model chosen is, in our eyes, the best compromise because it combines a good processor with a small dedicated graphics card allowing the gamer to enjoy light games without too many concessions. At the same time, it has interesting mobility and good comfort.

With its aluminum frame and sturdy hinges, the Aspire 5 has all of a quality computer. It has a sufficiently compact size so as not to encumber you and will not break your back thanks to its contained weight (363 x 250 x 18 mm – 1.8 kg). As a bonus, it has an interesting endurance of ten hours.

Ergonomics, for its part, are interesting without standing out. As a result, we find a fairly standard keyboard with a short and dry keystroke but pleasant enough for writing. It is also equipped with backlighting. The trackpad is a little less good but remains usable on a daily basis with a slight vibration when using the physical click.

The performance is ensured by an Intel Core i5-10210U coupled to an Nvidia MX250, 8 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. The set achieves very good results which even leave room for a little gaming (light games only ). Even in the latter use, the ventilation remains relatively gentle. As a bonus, the storage and RAM are easily upgradable which allows a better lifespan.

The display is entrusted to a 15 ”IPS matte panel with FHD resolution. It offers average results even if we note a little faithful colorimetry (delta E of 6.7) and a rather limited maximum brightness. However, for the intended uses, it is more than sufficient.

The connection, finally, is made up of 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB 2.0, 1 USB-C, 1 HDMI, 1 combo jack and 1 ethernet. Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 are also planned.

However, its capabilities are constrained by the lack of real power at the entry level. Nevertheless, it is still able to meet the majority of users.

On the design side, we are obviously in the quality, finesse and precision of the famous apple. This is again a 13 ”format that is still as thin and light (1.29 kg). It is therefore easy to slip it into your bag or to move it.

Its average autonomy is 7 to 8 hours but it must be admitted that in standby, it discharges much less than a Windows PC, which allows you to take it for an entire day of class (often dotted with multiple small breaks ).

On the ergonomic side, it finally corrects the great flaw of its ancestors by skipping the butterfly keyboard in favor of the Magic Keyboard, presented on the latest generation MacBook Pros and inspired by the brand’s fixed models. The latter is a model of efficiency with a short, crisp and precise strike.

The touchpad is just as qualitative and has good precision while being pleasant and responsive. It also occupies a nice surface on the chassis which facilitates its use.

Its very bright Retina screen has excellent colorimetry and foolproof anti-reflection management, reaffirming itself as a benchmark in the market. This version again takes advantage of True Tone, which minimizes eye fatigue by adapting the color temperature to your environment.

This panel, coupled with the very good audio system, also allows your computer to be an excellent multimedia companion.

On the other hand, on the component side, the brand equips its entry level with a Core i3 specially created for it. Sadly, even though it’s paired with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, it only manages to shine for simple, low-resource tasks.

As a result, we recommend the “i5 quadricoeur” option, available only on the brand’s website , in order to benefit from sufficient resources on a daily basis.

Otherwise, on the connectivity side, we always keep minimalism with only 2 USB-C ports, one input and one output jack. A HUB will therefore be necessary. The brand also ignores Wi-Fi 6.

Conclusion:

Acer Spin 311 For Work (R721T-4058) : offered at an affordable price, this entry-level has the merit of being very robust (MIL-STD 810G certification), of having a 11 ”HD touch screen and reversible in tablet mode. It is mainly designed for school or professional use. Its compact size makes it a model of transportability and its power will allow it to better manage the majority of the tasks that you can entrust to it.

Acer Chromebook 14 (1HT-P1TH) : it is one of the few computers to have a matte touch screen and therefore very little subject to glare. It competes directly with the Asus C523 by having undeniable qualities: high performance, a good 14 ”FHD screen and a battery life of nearly 12 hours! The choice between these two models was difficult but the Asus wins the game thanks to its larger screen.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 : this version does not find its place in the current market. Although it is equipped with 8 GB of RAM and a Core i5 ensuring good performance and exemplary fluidity (an i7 version, 16 GB RAM is also available), it suffers from its tablet side, which restricts its capabilities. Thus, while the power is sufficient for common tasks, it remains too low to match its competitors. Too bad because its screen is of good quality and its autonomy of a good level.
